Travel & Arrival

You can fly directly into North Eleuthera Airport (ELH), Governor's Harbour Airport (GHB), or Rock Sound Airport (RSD). Flights are available from Nassau, Florida, Atlanta, Charlotte, and select international hubs depending on season. You may also connect through Nassau.


From North Eleuthera Airport, taxis and water ferries provide transport to Harbour Island and Spanish Wells. The ferry ride is short and runs regularly during the day. (Usually runs about $6 each way.)


Yes. International travelers must carry a valid passport. Visa requirements depend on your country of citizenship.


Eleuthera is never heavily crowded. Peak season typically runs from late fall through spring. Summers are quieter and warmer.


Driving & Transportation

Yes. In The Bahamas, we drive on the left.


In most cases, yes. Eleuthera stretches over 100 miles, and public transportation is very limited.


Road conditions vary. Some sections have potholes, uneven pavement, or limited lighting at night.

Many rental vehicles have the steering wheel on the right side, though some may be left-hand drive.  Always confirm with your rental provider.


Driving at night requires caution. Roads are not always well-lit, and livestock or wildlife may cross unexpectedly.

Eleuthera has local clinics and healthcare facilities. For serious emergencies, evacuation to Nassau may be required.


Yes. In Central Eleuthera, Da Medicine Place in Palmetto Point serves residents and visitors.


Bahamas Wellness – Eleuthera Wellness Medical Clinic in Palmetto Point provides primary medical services.

Living on Eleuthera

Life on Eleuthera is peaceful and community-driven. Settlements are small, and relationships matter.


Grocery stores are located in larger settlements. Smaller communities may have limited supplies.


Internet is available island-wide, but speeds and reliability may vary by settlement.


Eleuthera offers tranquility, space, and natural beauty — but limited large-scale services. Many residents embrace self-sufficiency.

Safety & Practical Information

Spanish Wells & Harbour Island

Spanish Wells is located just north of Eleuthera on St. George’s Cay and is accessible by ferry from North Eleuthera.


It is known for its strong fishing industry, particularly lobster fishing, and its well-kept residential community.


Harbour Island is located off the northwest coast of Eleuthera and is accessible by ferry from North Eleuthera.


It is known for Pink Sand Beach, pastel cottages, boutique hotels, and upscale charm.
